I just want to say that our beloved Shirley was Always sharing and giving. She was always willing to help others. As a teacher she was always looking for the best there was to give her students. As friend I could see she really care for them. As a sister she was always supportive with brother and sisters. As an aunt she was always fun to be with. As an exchange students' mom she was the best .. always learning from each other and caring .. she was also a believer. A God believer and faithful to her church. But above all ... a very nice person. I learned and felt all that by being her exchange student-son from 1982 to 1983 ... in 1983 we both won a full year Movie-tickets since we both love movies and we filled out a newspaper contest fot the Oscars, she was very proud of it and she had many many great monents with nephews and nices and family as she told me some of those fun 70s moments with nephews and nices as Greg and Brian and their cousins fron Pensilvania playing and guessing TV commercials. We will I just want to say that our beloved Shirley was Always sharing and giving. She was always willing to help others. She enjoyed every moment ... We will miss you Shirley M. Jones ⚘

I send my condolences to her family.

One of my favorite teachers at Olean High. I loved taking Latin with Senorita. She would bring us brownies sometimes on Fridays. May she Rest In Peace.

We send our condolences to a wonderful teacher and role model to many young Oleanders. She was always happy, interested in her students, and left a legacy of Espanol speaking students.
Thank you making theses students your family.

Shirley was my idol. As a shy freshman at Hinsdale Central I studied both Spanish and Latin with her in 1959-60. She had just returned from Spain. I thought, "If she can do travel and spend time in Spain, so can I." She is the reason that I became a Spanish teacher.

Señorita Jones was a wonderful teacher and a good friend. I learned so much from her, much more than Spanish and Latin. Our class enjoyed our movie days with Señorita after we went off to college and her ongoing care about all of her students.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Senorita Jones started teaching us Spanish in the 5th grade at School 5 in 1966. I always enjoyed learning from her, and to this day I still can not say the country Honduras in "English" but rather the Spanish version with the trilled r. She was a great teacher and just a nice person all around.

Both Paul and I are so sorry to hear of Shirley’s passing. What a great influence she had on my kids as well as many others at OHS. A true lady and great teacher.
I just served a rhubarb pie this weekend and you must know that the original stalks were given to us by none other than Shirley!
May she Rest In Peace!

My sympathies to you Brian and your family. I loved Senorita Jones. She made Spanish come alive in the classroom and inspired me to try dishes like paella and flan, her favorite dessert. I even enjoyed taking Latin from her too.
