Elizabeth L. "Betty" Morrill, of 3067 Rte 16 N, passed away March 5, 2014 at the Olean General Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Betty was born Jan. 27, 1926 in Los Angeles, CA and was a daughter of William Harvis and Frances R. Davis Barnes, Sr. On June 1, 1971 in Jackson, Missouri she married her husband of 30 years, Goodsel E. Morrill who predeceased her on Nov. 21, 2001.
Betty was employed by Hobart in Missouri. Upon moving to New York, she and her husband owned the Hobart Franchise in Olean. Betty also owned and operated Betty's Flowers on West State Street, until she retired in 1999. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Olean. Betty was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Missouri where she was very active and was a state leader in the organization. Her membership did not end after moving to Olean. Betty became very active with the Allegany Rebekah Lodge and held the highest office in the local lodge. Betty was very artistic and independent, and enjoyed crafts of all kinds. She will be remembered for being easy-going, and one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Betty was a great person to be around.
Betty is survived by two children, Alan Steven (Marilyn) Morrill of Aledo, TX, and Margery "Ann" (Rick) Shay of Olean; four grandsons, Christopher & John Beagle, Douglas Morrill, and Daniel Yocum; two great grandchildren, Catherine & Jason Beagle Morrill; and a sister, Joanne Shaw of Fremont, CA.
Along with her loving husband, Betty was predeceased by a son, Philip Gary Morrill in 2012; and a brother, William Harvis Barnes, Jr. killed in action in Korea in 1951.
