Olean - Everett C. "Bud" Fortner     

 

            Everett C. "Bud" Fortner, of 500 E. Spring St., formerly of Route 16 North, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2018, at the Cuba Memorial Hospital Palliative Care, following a brief illness.

 

            Bud was born on November 11, 1919 in Ensinore and was a son of Archie C. and Nellie Hawkins Fortner.  On January 24, 1943 in Olean, he married his wife of 62 years, Helen W. Wilber, who predeceased him on January 8, 2006.

 

            Bud was a 1938 graduate of Cayuga Lake Academy in Aurora.  He attended Elmira Business School until December of 1941, when he enlisted in the US Army on December 31 and served until November 30, 1945.  Following World War II, he returned to Ithaca and worked.  Bud moved to Olean in 1956 and worked at Dresser Rand from 1956 to 1982, when he retired.  He was member of the First Baptist Church of Olean.  Bud was a member of the Allegany American Legion.

 

            Bud enjoyed working around the house and in the yard, planting trees, cooking, and good music.  He formerly bowled in leagues and served as secretary and treasurer of many leagues.  Bud served on the Board for the Olean Men's Bowling League.  He also enjoyed golf and woodworking and even took some classes at BOCES.

 

            Bud is survived by; 2 daughters, Sue F. (John) Keim of Allegany and Cheryl J. Hopkins of Rochester; 6 grandchildren, Ryan (Nicole) Hopkins, Tara Hopkins, Alicia (Geoff) Kelley, Andrea Keim, Debra Hopkins, and Joshua (Stephanie Skinner) Keim; and 8 great grandchildren, Robert and Allison Kessler, Cordell and Aaliyah Hopkins, Maddox Keim, and Jarod, Leah, and Noah Keil, a sister in law Carol (Larry) Nenno of both Olean and Plant City, FL and several nieces and nephews.

           

            Along with his loving wife, Bud was predeceased by; his infant twin sister, Evelyn Fortner; a brother, Lyle Fortner; and 2 sisters, Ameta and Betty.

 

Friends will be received on Monday, December 3, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State Street, Olean, where a Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 1:00 pm.  Burial will be at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Olean.  Full military honors will be accorded by the Allegany American Legion, Charles Harbel Post #892.  Online condolences may be made at www.LetroMcIntoshSpinkFuneralHome.com
