Caneadea – Forrest C. “Frosty” Hamer
Forrest C. Hamer, 83, passed away Wednesday October 31, 2018 at Buffalo General Hospital following a brief illness.
Forrest was born June 20, 1935 in Pike and was the son of the late Clarence A. and Margaret Hull Hamer.
Forrest served in the Navy from 1955 to 1958. After the Navy he worked For Raymond Earl in Hinsdale repairing farm equipment. Then he worked for Grant Dean at Breezy Point Campground before running a second farm for Byron Hamilton in Black Creek. With just a few years left before he was eligible for retirement Forrest went to work for Grastorf’s Implements (Belfast) repairing tractors and hauling farm equipment. He then retired, but he couldn’t sit idle so he went to work for the Town of Belfast where he worked for another 12 years sweeping roads, mowing lawns, and plowing snow.
At home Forrest enjoyed talking on the CB, watching the Mets play, and listening to old time country music artists, especially Johnny Cash. He also liked mowing lawns and making maple syrup with Dave Jennings, who was a good and loyal friend for 40 years.
Forrest most of all cherished the conversations and time spent with his children. He was a good father with a strong heart who was blessed with an iron will.
Forrest is survived by his children; Cathy (John) Horton, Teresa Pastor, Ben (Barb) Hamer, Susette Gerould, Scott Hamer, Jason (Elizabeth) Hamer, Michelle Hamer, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, a sister Nellie Slocum, and a sister Vonnie (Jim) McKelvey.
Forrest was predeceased by a sister Mary Greek and a brother William Hamer.
