Mary J. Hastas of 421 Second Ave. passed away on Wednesday Feb. 5, 2014 in the Olean General Hospital. Mary was born on June 1, 1931 in Wellsville and was a daughter of James and Helen Bravis Regis. On July 31, 1955 in Wellsville she married her loving husband of over 52 years James G. Hastas, who predeceased her on Oct. 19, 2007. Mary was a 1949 graduate of Wellsville High School, where she was prom queen. She continued her education at Keuka College and received her BA in business. Mary worked as a much loved teacher in Friendship for a number years. Mary was a wonderful mother with a great sense of humor, contagious laugh, and a kind sweet caring personality. She enjoyed car traveling, especially near the ocean, listening to music and loved her cats Hurkey and Breeze. Mary was co owner of Hastas Restaurant in Olean with her husband Jim for 40 years where she kept the books and loved to sit at the back table keeping an eye on things! Mary is survived by a son, Dean J. Hastas of Olean; a daughter, Theola C. (James) Sweeney of Kingston, Mass.; three grandchildren, Timothy, Kelly, and Michael Sweeney all of Kingston, Mass.; two brothers, John (Doris) Rigas of Coudersport, and Gus (Rheba) Rigas of Wellsville; a sister, Katherine Rigas-Pallas of Naples, Florida; and several nieces & nephews. In addition to her husband, Mary was pre-deceased by two brothers-in-law, Dr. William Pallas & John Hastas; and her in-laws, Gus & Theola Hastas of Franklinville. Friends will be received in the St. Stephens Episcopal Church on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at which time Funeral Services will be held. The Rev. George Zervos, Pastor of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Jamestown, will celebrate. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. Friends are invited t attend a Life's Celebration Dinner emeatly following the funeral service at Old Library Restaurant. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Rose Pappas Foundation 120 N Union Street Olean, NY 14760. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E.
