Olean – Lois E. Lyons "Loving Mother, Grandmother, & Great Grandmother"
Lois E. Lyons, formerly of 102 W. Spring St. and The Pines Health & Rehab in Machias, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018 at the Pines Health & Rehab in Olean, following a short illness.
Lois was born on August 9, 1921 in Olean and was a daughter of Edward J. and Anna Armstrong Kenyon. On October 16, 1942 at St. John's Church in Olean, she married her husband of 47 years, Robert J. Lyons, Sr., who predeceased her on November 8, 1989.
Lois worked almost 20 years, into her 80's, in the bakery at Ried's Food Barn, retiring in 2001. She was a life-long member of St. John's Church. Lois was an avid New York Yankees fan. For many years, she was a Little League mother who spent many days working the concession stand and watching her sons play baseball at Forness Park. Lois later enjoyed watching slow pitch softball games at Marcus Park. She also enjoyed bowling, crocheting, bingo, and playing cards. In 1999, Lois was honored by the March of Dimes as Mother of the Year. Most of all she loved time with family and friends. Family gatherings with her children were her most enjoyable times. Lois especially loved visits with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be remembered for her quick wit and love of family.
Lois survived by; her four sons, James (Marilyn) Lyons, Thomas Lyons, Timothy (Brenda) Lyons, and Michael (Sandy) Lyons; three daughters, MaryAnn (Daniel) Scanlon, Deborah (Lawrence) Joseph, and Pamela (Michael) Neary; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Lyons; 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her loving husband, Lois was predeceased by; a son, Robert J. Lyons, Jr. on February 5, 1994; her son-in-law, Daniel Scanlon on April 5, 2001; a grandson; three brothers, Fredrick, Lloyd, and Harold (Sonny) Kenyon; and two sisters, Doris Jonak and Joan Young.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State Street, Olean. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 beginning with a prayer service in the Funeral Home at 9:00 am followed by a 9:30 am Mass of Christian Burial in St. John's Catholic Church. The Rev. F. Patrick Melfi, Pastor, will celebrate. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, NY. Online condolences may be made at www.LetroMcIntoshSpinkFuneralHome.com
