Obituary of Zella Mae Cunningham

Zella Mae (Sherwood) Cunningham, 102, of 1505 West Henley Street and Zephyrhills, FL, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at Zephyrhills Hospital in Florida. Mrs. Cunningham was born Dec. 8, 1911 in Olean and was a daughter of Charles Burdette and Alice Mae Perry Sherwood. She married Karl Schnell, who predeceased her. She married D. Vincent Connor on October 12, 1969 in Allegany, who predeceased her on March 20, 1987. She married Chuck Grady on November 26, 1989 in Allegany, who predeceased her on April 22, 2001. She married Melburn A. Cunningham on October 26, 2003 at the First Baptist Church of Olean, who survives. Zella was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School. She attended the West Brook Academy. Zella worked for the City of Olean Water Department. She was a deputy of the Family Court of Cattaraugus County. Zella was a member of the HomeCare & Hospice Guild's Lutheran Club, a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the Christian Women's Group in Bradford. She was the oldest member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Allegany. Zella and her husband, Mel, both attended the St. John's Church and the First Baptist Church of Olean regularly. Along with her loving husband, Zella is survived by a son, James C. Schnell of Olean; a grandson, Daniel Schnell; a granddaughter, Linda Schnell; two great grandchildren, Lily & Michael Schnell; and several nieces & nephews. Along with her first 3 husbands, Zella was predeceased by a sister, Beatrice Evans. Friends will be received Monday, Jan. 27, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Olean from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at which time a Funeral Service will be held. Both Ministers from both churches will co-officiate. Burial will be at the Allegany Cemetery.
