Obituary of Barbara J. Bowen

Barbara J. Bowen, Box 65 Route 305, West Clarksville, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014, at the Hart Comfort House of Wellsville, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born July 2, 1937 in Olean General Hospital, she was a daughter of Woodrow W. Swartz, who predeceased her Nov. 5, 1987 and Lula B. Hadley Swartz, who predeceased her on June 20, 2003. On April 19, 1958 in St. Stevens Episcopal Church, Olean she married Barton F. Bowen who predeceased her on April 3, 2002. Barbara was a 1956 graduated from Portville Central School. She loved taking care of her family and her home. Barbara also enjoyed her flower garden and she loved to dance and have fun. Barbara is survived by two sons, Bryan F. Bowen of Olean, and Brad S. (Laurie) Bowen of CA; one daughter, Brenda M. Bowen of Friendship; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Jonathan, Alex, and Kayli of California, Melissa Bowen of Portville, and Eli Bowen of Florida; two sisters, Shirly Brahaney of Ohio, and Nancy (Jim) Warner of Portville & Florida; three brothers, Merle (Sharon) Swartz of Portville, David (Sherry) Swartz of Florida, and Jerry (Mary) Swartz of Allegany; and many nieces & nephews. Barbara was predeceased by one son, Bruce Bowen on June 15, 2008; one brother, Richard Swartz in Dec. 2007; and one sister-in-law, Barb Costello on March 5, 2009. Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. # 24 Genesee Pkwy, Cuba Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and on Thursday, August 21, 2014 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, at which time Funeral Services will be held. The Rev. Steven Devine will officiate. Burial will be at the Obi Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to The Hart Comfort House 141 E. State Street, Wellsville, NY, 14755.
