Obituary of John R. Bean

John R. Bean, Jr. of 115 North 21st Street, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 in the Buffalo General Hospital, following a brief illness. John was born Sep. 15, 1945 in Olean and was a son of John R. and Elizabeth J. McLaughlin Bean, Sr. He graduated from Olean High School in 1964. John served in the Navy from January 11, 1966 to January 10, 1969. John started working at Clark Brothers as a grinder. He was an owner of a small grocery store called "John's Grocery" on Reed and 7th Street. John started working for the family business "Kennedy & Bean Painting & Contracting", as a laborer, which later became "Bean & Rinko Painting." He was formerly a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Olean Eagles. John volunteered many hours at St. Mary's Church, decorating the church for all the different holidays. Being an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed working around his home and also collecting antiques. John will be remembered as a humble, proud, caring family, who was a great father and grandfather and a man who embraced family traditions. John is survived by two children, John F. (Devin Kio) Bean, and Emily E. Bean both of Olean; four grandchildren, Anna M., Michael J., Molli M., and Abbigail J.; two siblings, Charles R. (Sharon A.) Bean of Boca Raton, FL, and Paula A. (Thomas M.) Paar of Olean; nieces, Alecia & Brent Obergfell, Jim & Andrea Bean, Jessica Paar, and Shannon & Captain Norman Lockhart; several great nieces & nephews; a close & special friend, Andy D. Atkinson & their pet schnauzer "Jager" of Olean. Friends will be received on Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street Olean from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 beginning with a prayer service in the Funeral Home at 9:00 am followed a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 am in St. Mary of the Angels Church. The Rev. Gregory J. Dobson, will celebrate. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
