Robert J. Babb, Sr. of 5829 Leonard Run Road, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008 in the Buffalo, VA Medical Center following a long battle with cancer.
Mr. Babb was born on June 15, 1947 in Olean and was a son of Clifford and Clara Shoup Babb, Jr. He married his wife Mary Lou Blair on June 14, 1981 in Allegany Presbyterian Church who survives.
Mr. Babb grew up in the Limestone/Allegany area. He served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1972 doing three tours in Vietnam. Mr. Babb worked in a number of places including owning and operating Babb East State Auto and most recently he worked at Zippo Mfg in Bradford from 2003 to 2006 at which time he retired due to his illness. He enjoyed singing, playing guitar and karaoke and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Babb was also a lifetime member of the Allegany American Legion Post 892 and the Lincolnton NC VFW Post 1706.
Surviving Mr. Babb besides his wife are six children, Kim (Mike) Ballard, Robert (Kelly) Babb, Jr., Tammy Babb Jody (Meggan) Babb, Tania (Bernard) Geist and Troy Babb; four step children, Cheryl (Ronald) Babb, Scott Herron, Kevin Herron and Darnyl Babb; seven bothers, Randy (Naomi) Babb, Ronald (Cheryl) Babb, Jack (Carol) Babb, James (Janet) Babb Clifford (Gail) Babb, Wayne (Diane) Babb and Brian (Alvena) Babb; six sisters, Sandy (Charles) Crozier, Dawn (Robert) Bean, Joyce (Paul) Melfi, Linda (Shane) McGranaghan, Melody Green and Brenda Bailey; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces & nephew.
Mr. Babb was pre-deceased by his mother & father and a brother Larry (Kelly) Babb.
Friends will be received on Friday, June 6, 2008 from 7-9 PM in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean and on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at The Living Waters Church from 11-1 P.M. at which time funeral services will be held. The Rev. Jody L. Babb, Youth Pastor & Mr. Babb's son, will officiate. Burial with full military honors accorded by the Allegany American Legion Post 892 will be in the Veteran's Field of Honor in Mt. View Cemetery, Olean.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Buffalo VA Hospital.
