Obituary of James W. Walsh

James W. Walsh of 4439 W. Sciota St., passed away Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015, at the Jones Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, following a lengthy illness.
Jim was born on Jan. 25, 1936 in Wellsville and was a son of Walter G. and Jennie A. Hoyer Walsh. On Nov. 22, 1958, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scio, he married his loving wife of 56 years, Barbara A. Guinnip, who pre-deceased him on April 23, 2015.
Jim was a graduate of Scio Central High School. Upon his graduation Jim enlisted in the U.S. Maries during the Korean War from July 8, 1954 to July 7, 1957. He then began working at Dresser Rand in Wellsville as a Test Floor Mechanic & Machinist where he retired from in 1998. Jim was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scio.
Jim was a 30 plus year "Life Member" of the Scio Fire Department, where he served as Fire Chief during the 1972 flood. He also served for many years on the Board of Fire Commissioners for the Town of Scio. Jim was a avid NASCAR fan, especially liking Dale Earnhardt, Sr. He will be remembered as a family man who loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them and watching them race their go carts.
Jim is survived by four sons, Michael J. (Terri) Walsh of Scio, Douglas J. (Kimberly) Walsh of Scio, Daniel P. Walsh of Wellsville, and J. Gregory Walsh of Scio; a daughter, Toni Vogel of North Carolina; 14 grandchildren, Jonathon E., Stephanie A., Samantha J., Shawna M., Damien D., Megan E., Daniel P., Dylan J., Payton R., Preston J., Tyler Cornell, Alex, Hailey and Louis Vogel; 12 great grandchildren; a brother, David (Sandy) Walsh of Allentown, NY; a sister, Diana (Jerry) Hilliard of Scio; a sister-in-law, Adele Walsh of Wellsville; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his Barbara, Jim was pre-deceased by a brother, John C. Walsh.
There will be a Life Celebration Gathering in honor of both Jim and his wife, Barbara in the Scio Fire Hall on Saturday Dec. 12, 2015 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Genesee Pkwy, Cuba.
