Bill Altman of 4115 South Nine Mile Road, Valley View Estates Lot 172, formerly of Hamburg, Great Valley, & Olean, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014 at home following a courageous battle with cancer. Bill was born Feb. 6, 1931 in Franklin, PA and was the son of John E. and LaRita Louise Heckendore Altman. On Nov. 11, 1967 he married Sandra M. Hodara, who predeceased him Oct. 12, 1996. On Sep. 16, 2000 he married his second wife, Carol L. Rowe Peace, who predeceased him May 1, 2012. Bill was a 1949 graduate of Olean High School. He continued his education and received an engineering degree from Penn State University in 1953. Bill worked for several corporations as a manufacturing engineer including Bausch & Lomb and General Motors Plant both in Buffalo and then retiring from Truck Light/Quaker State in 1992. After retiring, Bill and his father had rental properties and helped his wife in real estate sales. Bill was a member of St. Bonaventure Parish. He was also a member of the Salamanca Lions Club and the Enchanted Mountains Masonic Lodge F&AM #252. Bill volunteered faithfully at the Olean Food Pantry. He enjoyed going to lunch with the "ROMEO" and playing cards at the Allegany American Legion. Bill is survived by two children, Joan (Brian) Allio of Stow, OH, and Susan (Lee) Groves of Charlotte, NC; twin grandsons, William & Benjamin Allio; three granddaughters, Emma, Gracie, & Hannah Groves; eight siblings, Nancy R. (Charles) Guzzetta of Mt. Sinai, Long Island, Jeanine L. Olkosky of Buffalo, Doris A. (Joseph) Martino of Las Vegas, NV, David R. (Margaret) Altman of Beverly, MA, Gerald R. (Sandi) Altman of Scottsdale, AZ, Betsy A. (Michael) Zampogna of Olean, Tootsie (John) Willman of Lake Wylie, SC, and James D. Altman of Reseda, CA; and many nieces & nephews. Along with his loving wives, Bill was predeceased by a brother, Robert L. Altman, on Dec. 1, 2013; and a brother-in-law, Donald Olkosky in 2000. Friends will be received on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014 beginning with a prayer service in the Funeral Home at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Bonaventure Church. The Rev. James Vacco, Pastor, will celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Olean Food Pantry, Leo Moss Drive, Olean, New York 14760 or the HomeCare & Hospice, 1225 West State Street, Olean, New York 14760.
