Helen Sherwood, of 305 Lighthouse Point Circle, formerly of 1440 Four Mile Rd. and Emerald Hills, Allegany, passed away Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, in her home surrounded by her loving children and family. Helen was born March 23, 1924 in Bradford, PA and was a daughter of James and Mary Briggs Burgess. On July 21, 1945 in Bradford, PA, she married her husband of 47 years, Frank J. Sherwood, who predeceased her on May 25, 1993. Helen worked for ACME from 1951 to 1971. She and her husband built and operated Sherwood Courts, on the Four Mile in Allegany, in 1971. Helen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Allegany for 20 plus years. Helen is survived by one son, Donald F. Sherwood of Oswego; one daughter, Karolyn J. (Leonard) Maughan of Younsville, LA; several grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Along with her loving Husband, Helen was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph and Kenneth Burgess; two sisters, Lelah Buoite and Alice Burgess; and one daughter-in-law, Bonnie Sherwood. Friends will be received on Friday, Oct. 9, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., #646 E. State St., Olean, where Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015 at 11:00 am. The Rev. John M. Woodring, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Allegany, will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Allegany, #44 North 3rd Street, Allegany, New York 14706.
