Richard C. "Dick" Aderman of 2962 Smith Hollow Road, passed away, Tuesday Oct. 28, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family, following a lengthy battle with dementia. Born Jan. 21, 1927 in Olean, he was the son of Raymond and Hazel Bean Aderman. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from July 28, 1944 to June 3, 1946. While in the Navy he served aboard the "Mighty Mo" the USS Missouri and was proud to be present during the signing of the peace treaty. On May 17, 1947, he married his wife of 67 years Jean Ganoung, who survives. Dick attended Wellsville Central School. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for ten years, and did masonry jobs around Olean area. Dick began working at Clark Brothers in 1956 and retired from Dresser-Rand after 33 years of service in 1989, as a pipefitter. Dick was a member of several bowling leagues and was especially proud of bowling a 624 on his 76th birthday. He was a member of the Portville American Legion. Along with his loving wife, Dick is survived by a son, Jack (Joyce) Aderman of Olean; four daughters, Barbara (David) Caya of Rockford, IL, Sue Aderman, Patricia Powley, & Joyce Fitch all of Olean; seven grandchildren, Brenda (Mike) Smith, Keri (Tony) Coleman, Jason Aderman, Ryan (Amber) Aderman, Travis (Sara) Aderman, Nick (Megan) Powley, and Nate (Nina) Powley; ten great grandchildren; a brother, Edwin (Eleanor) Dutton of Longview, Texas; and three sisters, Wilma Jean Starks of Kileen, Texas, Rose Browning of Olean, and Edna Ross of Jackson, Michigan. Dick was predeceased by his mother & stepfather, Hazel & Edwin Dutton; his father, Raymond Aderman; an infant son, David Aderman in 1964; a son, Richard Aderman, Jr. in 1972; two grandchildren, Kevin Frederick in 1981 and Daniel Aderman in 1985; and two brothers, Robert Hotchkiss and Charles Dutton. Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., #646 E. State St., Olean on Today, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Friday, October 31, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 at which time a Funeral Service will be held. The Rev. Adam D. Stein, Pastor of the Creekside Chapel in Allegany, will officiate. Burial will be at the Allegany Cemetery with full Military Honors accorded by the Allegany American Legion, Charles Harbel Post #892 Ritual Team. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to HomeCare and Hospice, #1225 West State Street, Olean, New York 14760 or to the Allegany Fire Department, First Street, Allegany, New York 14706.
