Thomas J. Hughes of 103 East Ohio Street, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2015 in the Olean General Hospital following a long illness. Tom was born Sept. 29, 1940 in Olean and was a son of the late Richard John and Felicia Ann Brannen Hughes. Tom was a 1958 graduate of Allegany Central High School. He served in the US Army from Jan. 30, 1964 to Dec. 15, 1965. Tom worked for the Rail Road for a period of time. He also attended St. Bonaventure and Alfred State. Tom retire from the Olean Post office in about 2002 after over 20 year as a port man. He was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church and he enjoyed reading and was an avid Buffalo Bills Fan. Surviving Tom are a sister, Sheila J. Shively of Allegany; a sister-in-law, Sue Hughes of Newnan, Georgia; and nieces & nephews. Tom was pre-deceased by a brother William "Bill" Hughes in Feb. 10, 2007 and a sister Kathy Fowler on Jan. 30, 1996. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 10:00 am in St. Mary of the Angels Church. Burial will be in the Veteran Field of Honor in Mt. View Cemetery, Olean.
