Obituary of Helen M. DeGolia

Helen M. DeGolia of 3875 Main Street, passed away on Thursday Jan. 1, 2015 in the Cuba Memorial Hospital.
Helen was born March 2, 1920 in Hinsdale and was a daughter of William E. and Mary Jane Watrous Bryant. On May 21, 1949, at the Maplehurst Baptist Church in Hinsdale, she married her husband of 65 years, Newton J. DeGolia, who survives.
Helen graduated from Hinsdale High School in 1937. She worked as the school secretary at Hinsdale School starting in the early 1940's, before going to work at the Hinsdale Post Office for 10 years. Helen then returned to the Hinsdale School as the secretary until her retirement in 1983. She was formerly the Hinsdale Historian. Helen was a 70 year member of the Hinsdale Methodist Church. She is a former member of the Hinsdale Grange, Hinsdale United Methodist Women, the sewing group at the Olean General Hospital and the telephone Pioneers.
Along with her loving husband, Helen is survived by a son, John W. (Heather) DeGolia of Spencerport; a son-in-law, Jerry Williams of Hinsdale; four grandchildren, Melissa McCombs of Hinsdale, Joshua (Tiffany) Williams of Olean, John B. (Jaclyn) DeGolia of Batavia, and Joseph DeGolia of Buffalo; and one great granddaughter, Madison McCombs.
In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Jane Williams in May 2012; and a sister, Ethel Sherlock on Feb. 2, 2008.
Friends will be received Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean, where Funeral Services will be held on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015 at 9:30 am. The Rev. Richard Young, Pastor of the Hinsdale United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Hinsdale Cemetery.
