James C. Abernethy of 1815 Four Mile Road, passed away on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015 in the Palliative Care Unit in the Cuba Memorial Hospital. James was born April 5, 1934 in Houtzdale, PA and was a son of J. Robert and Fay J. Miller Abernethy. He was formerly married to Marlene Pearson. On Aug. 15, 1974 in Portville, James married his wife of 40 years, Charlotte Liwa, who survives. James graduated from Houtzdale Woodward Brisbon High School in 1952. He was a U.S. Navy Reservist from 1962 to 1990. James worked as a self employed truck driver, before going to work for Potter Lumber Company, where he retired in 1999. James enjoyed working, driving truck, and hunting in Pennsylvania, but he truly enjoyed being outside. Along with his loving wife, James is survived by three children, Debora A. Lippa of Farmington, Sharon L. Moskel of Bergen, and James A. (Giulia) Abernethy of Bergen; one stepson, David J. Minderler of Eden; three grandsons, Lukas Lippa, Steven & Matthew Minderler; three brothers, Robert (Peggy) Abernethy of State College, PA, Charles Abernethy of York, PA, and C. Glenn (Barbara) Abernethy of Smithtown, PA; one sister-in-law, Nancy LaFredo of Olean, and several nieces & nephews. Friends will be received for a Memorial Gathering on Saturday Jan. 24, 2015 from 1:00pm to 3:00 pm in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street Olean.
