Janet Prentice, 96, formerly of 18 Chapel Street, passed away Monday, November 28, 2011 in Founders Pavilion, Corning, NY.
Janet was born May 3, 1915 in Shinglehouse, Pa and was the daughter of George and Zula Tompkins LaDue. She married Harold Prentice on January 25 1941 in Cuba NY who pre-deceased her on September 6 1966. She Married Dr. Albert T. Skinner on March 19, 1988 in New Smyrna Beach Florida, who pre-deceased her on November 27, 1992.
Mrs. Prentice was a 1931 Graduate of Olean High School. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the Alfred University in 1935. Mrs. Prentice taught general science, biology & physics in the Cuba Central High School for 20 years. She retired on July 1, 1978.
She also lived for several years in Auburn NY as well as Florida.
Mrs. Prentice was a member of the Cuba First Baptist Church, Current Topic Club and various civic groups. She was a member of several regional hand craft and art associations. She was a piano accompanist, accomplished weaver, knitter, painter and needle artist. She enjoyed traveling and was an active Alfred University alumnus.
Mrs. Prentice was pre-deceased by three sisters, Zula LaDue Skelton, Ester LaDue Parks and Edith LaDue Dickerson and son-in-law Steve Golby.
Surviving Mrs. Prentice are a daughter, Judith Prentice (Steve Golby) of Elmira; a son, John (Janice) Prentice of Florida; grandchildren, James Prentice, John Steward Prentice, Jennifer Prentice Arroyo, Leah Golby and Jennifer Golby; and several nieces & nephews and great grandchildren.
Friends will be received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Genesee Parkway Cuba on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at which time Funeral Services will be held. The Rev. Larry A. Poelma, Pastor of the Cuba First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Cuba Cemetery, Cuba. Online condolences may be made by clicking on the above button.
