Clayton W. Maynard of 16 Martha Ave passed away Friday, Nov. 25, 2011 of an apparent heart attack while hunting. Clayton was born on Sept. 14, 1930 in Olean and was a son of Clayton W. Edna Mac Cole Maynard, Sr. On May 23, 1992 in Scio he married his loving wife of almost 20 years Ruth Eichman, who survives. Clayton served his country in all four branches military. He enlisted directly out of high school and retired after 20 years in 1970. Wail in the arm forces he worked in Communication and lived in many places throughout the world. Following his military career he began working for the Cattaraugus County Highway Department and then for the Olean Post Office where he retired from in 1992 after 19 years. Clayton truly loved hunting and being in the outdoors. He enjoyed working in the yard and around his home. Clayton & his wife Ruth also own a home in Hertford, NC where they would travel to two or three times a year. His family knew him as "Bug" and his friends and coworker knew him as "Serge". Clayton was a life member of the Olean VFW 1619. Surviving Clayton besides his wife Ruth A. Linza are four daughters, Robin S. Siminski of Ohio, Kathy A. Ball of West Clarksville, Candy Maynard of Florida, and Tina Cook of Olean; a son, David T. Maynard of California; four step children, Ruthann (Bill Hendershot) McCarthy of Wellsville, Dale A. (Norma) Linza of North Carolina, Perry D. Linza of Chesapeake, VA, and Terry B. (Tere) Linza of Fresno, Ca; several grand, great grand & step grand & step great grandchildren; a half sister, Arietta May Schultz of Cuba; and many cousins. He was pre-deceased by his special cousin, hunting buddy and childhood friend, Ernie A. Larrabee on Nov. 11, 2007. Friends will be received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean today Monday, Nov. 28, 2011 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and on Tuesday Nov. 29, 2011 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm at which time Funeral Services will be held. The Rev. Less Chambers, Pastor of the West Clarksville Baptist Church will officiate. Burial, with full military honors accorded be the Allegany American Legion Charles Herbal Post #892, will be in the Allegany Cemetery, Allegany.
