George H. Jones of 3394 Route 16, passed away on Monday, Oct. 24, 2011 at home of an apparent heart attack. George was born on Nov. 10, 1928 in Franklinville and was a son of Lawrence O. and Mina Snow Jones. On Feb. 20, 1954 in Portville he married his wife of almost 48 years Beverly "Pat" Young who pre-deceased him on July 28, 2002. George served in the US Army during the Koran War from Nov. 24, 1950 to Nov. 29, 1952. After the war he began working at Gray Milling in Franklinville and then Worthmore Feeds in Olean for a number of years before going to work at Hillville Propane. He purchase Hillville Propane from Bruce Moody in the late 1980's which he ran until his retirement in 1997. One of the things George really enjoyed was when he and his wife Pat would work the auction and the auction Barn in Hinsdale with there best friends Arlie & Ann Kennedy. He also was a person who could fix anything and enjoyed working around his home and in the shed. He was a life time member of the Hinsdale Volunteer Fire Department where he was one of the first Bingo callers and was Parade Master for several years. George and his wife volunteered for many years at the Hinsdale Food Pantry. He enjoyed watching NASCAR. His grandchildren will remember all of the rides he gave them on his lawn tractor. He was a Buffalo Bills fan (when they where winning) and a Jeff Gordon Fan (When he was leading). Surviving George are a daughter, Candace A. "Candy" (Bill) Gaylor of Hinsdale; three grandchildren, David W. Gaylor of Hinsdale, Angela M. (Robert) Franz of Olean, and Marc A. (Jessica Ehmann) Gaylor of Hinsdale; five great grandchildren, Kiya, Darrin, Maurya, Robert and Alexander; a brother, Orlando "Ozzie" (Ann) Jones of Warren, Pa.; a half brother, Donald Baldwin, Sr. of Lime Lake; and several nieces and nephews. George was pre-deceased by three brothers, John, Harold and Harry Jones; and two sisters, Beulah Jones and Anna Gunsolus Murphy. Friends will be received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean tonight, Wednesday Oct. 26, 2011 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and on Thursday Oct. 27, 2011 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at which time Funeral and Committal Services will be held. The Rev. Glenn I. Treaster will officiate. Burial will be in the Hinsdale Cemetery, Hinsdale, NY. Memorials may be made to the Hinsdale Volunteer Fire Department, Hinsdale NY 14743.
