Obituary of Mary J. Desnoyers

Mary J. Desnoyers of 822 Bishop Street, and the Pines Health & Rehab Center, passed away Monday, December 19, 2011 in the Olean General Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born on July 3, 1922 in Olean. She was the daughter of Anthony and Mary Reed Minnitti. She was formerly married to Artie Bowser. On September 29, 1989 she married Archie Desnoyers, who survives. Mary worked as a cook at the L'Alcove restaurant for many years. She enjoyed cooking for her entire family and many friends. Mary was fondly called "Grandma Cookie" by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren because she was well known for her Italian cookies. Mary was a lifelong resident of Olean. She was a member of St. John's Church and a former member of the Moose Aux. Along with her loving husband, Mary is survived by two daughters, Sue (Ron) Allen, and Debbie (Jim) Douglas both of Olean; five sons, Joe (Sherrie) Bowser, Mike (Chris Tincher) Bowser, Pat (Robyn) Bowser, Tom (Robin) Bowser, and Tim (Pam) Bowser all of Olean; four stepchildren, Paul (Esther) Desnoyers of Allegany, Cheryl (Tom) Wolozyn of Gilbertsville, PA, Peter (Marie) Desnoyers of Amherst, NH, and Mark (Yvonne) Desnoyers of Plattsburg; 23 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by a brother, Carl Reed, in 2001. Family will be present at St. John's Church to receive condolences on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011 from 9:15 am to 10:00 am at which time a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held. The Rev. Edward J. Sheedy, Pastor, will celebrate. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. John's Church, 931 North Union Street, Olean, NY 14760 or the charity of the donor's choice.
