Obituary of Audrey J. Stomieroski

Audrey J. Stomieroski of the Cuba Skilled Nursing Facility, formerly of 320 South 7th St and Emerald Hill in Allegany, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2008 in The Olean General Hospital.
Mrs. Stomieroski was born in Olean, New York, May 17, 1927. She was the daughter Clyde and Anna Spears Firkel. On January 29, 1949, she married Edward John Stomieroski who predeceased her on January 24, 1972.
Mrs. Stomieroski attended Olean schools, and was a member of St. Mary's of The Angels Church in Olean. She retired in November 1991 after 24 years of service at the Motel DeSoto, Olean where she was Desk clerk-Switchboard operator. Previous to 1968, she was employed at Dewey Whites Country Store and the Market Basket in Olean. She also worked part-time at the century Manor as Chef Cook for several years.
Mrs. Stomieroski was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Ladies Auxiliary, serving as Past President of Post 1619, Olean, also, as Past President of the Cattaraugus County Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, and was Past President of the Sixth District Veterans of Foreign War Ladies Auxiliary serving it eight counties. Mrs. Stomieroski was a member of the Kinney Hose Volunteer Firemen's Auxiliary at Weston Mills, N.Y., and was Past President of the Cattaraugus Volunteer Firemen's Auxiliary, as well as, the Western New York Volunteer Firemen's Auxiliary.
Mrs. Audrey was a member of the Association of retarded Children serving on the Board or Directors, and was Fund Drive Campaign Chairman for the Association for several years.
In 1962, Mrs. Stomieroski, with her husband, Edward J. Stomieroski, served as Co-Chairmen of the Heart Association for Cattaraugus County Fund Drive. Mrs. Stomieroski was also a member and Past President of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Knights and a member of the lady Elks. She was a member and Past President of the Olean American Legion Post #530 Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Stomieroski is survived by three sons, Paul (Susan) M. Stomieroski of Weston Wisconsin, Joseph (Denise) E. Stomieroski of Olean, and Jacob (Barbara) C. Stomieroski of Saratoga Springs; four grandchildren, Jason, Eric, Sarah, and Erin; two sisters in-law, Etta L. Firkel and Patty Firkel both of Olean; three sisters, Mrs. Pat Wuethrich of Olean, Mrs. Doris Wilber of Pismo Beach, California, and Mrs. Janet (Antonio) Marra of Olean; one brother, Thomas A. (Joan) Firkel of Olean; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Stomieroski was predeceased by a son, Martin L. Stomieroski in January 1984, a sister, Charlotte H. Griffin in 1976, and five brothers, Harold E. Firkel, William C. Firkel, Raymond J. O. Firkel in 1984, Robert L. Firkel in 1980 and Mark L. Firkel in 1998.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 from 2:00 - 4:00 & 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2008 beginning with a prayer service in the funeral home at 9:30 AM flowed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary of the Angels Church. The Rev. Gregory J. Dobson, Pastor, will celebrate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.
