Obituary of Joan E. Babcock

Joan E. Babcock 67, formerly of Olean, and most recently of Highland Health Care in Wellsville, passed away Wednesday (April 20, 2011) in Jones Memorial Hospital.
Joan was born on May 30, 1943, in Olean, and was a daughter of the late Paul J. and Elizabeth Fraun Whitcher Sr. She married Robert Babcock in Olean. He predeceased her in 1988.
Joan, at the age of 16, began working at the St. Francis Hospital in the housekeeping department, where she continued working until she was in her late 30s.
After she married her husband, Bob, they moved to Bellville, Ill. Joan moved back to Olean in 2001.
Joan attended the Bethel Assembly of God Church in Olean. She loved horses, dogs and horror movies. Joan was also a big John Wayne fan and enjoyed watching all of his movies again and again. She will be remembered by her family as a very loving and caring person.
Surviving Joan are one brother, Paul J. (Grace) Whitcher Jr. of Franklinville; three sisters, Anita L. Lewis of Allegany, and Paula M. Havers and Patricia A. (James) Conner, both of Olean; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends will be received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, 646 E. State St., Olean, on Monday (April 25, 2011) from 1 to 2 p.m., at which time funeral and committal services will be held. The Rev. Roy E. Elliott, pastor of the House of Prayer in Bolivar, will officiate. Burial will be in the Allegany Cemetery, Allegany.
