Obituary of Margaret Pacheco

Born: Margaret Morgan Pacheco Died: June 22, 2016 at Olean General Hospital in Olean, NY. Daughter of Eugene and Agnes (Knight) Pacheco of Medford, Mass. She was received into the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, NY at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse on August 15, 1952 and professed her final religious vows on August 16, 1959. For over 60 years, Sr. Margaret devotedly lived the Mission of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany. Sister attended Daniel Butler grade school in Belmont, Mass., West Junior High in Arlington Heights, Mass., and Arlington High School in Arlington Center, Mass., graduating in 1945. After entering the Order, Sr. Margaret began college courses at St. Elizabeth Teacher's College (now part of St. Bonaventure University) in Allegany, NY. In 1966, Sister received her B.S. in Education, minoring in Social Studies. Sister Margaret spent her early years of ministry in education, teaching at St. Mary's in Rome, NY; St. Margaret Mary in Rochester, NY; St. Francis of Assisi in Triangle, VA; and serving as Principal at St. Joseph's in Olean. In 1966, Sister traveled to Brazil, where she lived and ministered until 1983. While in Brazil, Sister served in a number of capacities, including working as the assistant to both the Formation Director and the Local Coordinator; serving as the Local Coordinator; and teaching English. Sister Margaret returned to the United States in 1984, continuing her ministry in education until her retirement in 2002. In 2014, Sister Margaret was welcomed home to St. Elizabeth Motherhouse. Sr. Margaret is predeceased by her parents and a brother, William Pacheco of Arlington, Mass. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. A Wake Service is scheduled for Sunday, June 26, 2016, at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Allegany, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 27, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, followed by burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, NY. The funeral arrangements are under the direction of Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. 646 East State Street, Olean, NY.
